BRIDGING CORPORATE CULTURES WITH CORE VALUES

Client: A large international bank
Date: October - December 1998
Program: Synergy Through Samba; 14 sessions; 45 people per session

Two major acquisitions in five years had left this leading financial company with three distinct cultures and an impressive challenge: deliver seamless service to customers across organizations operating out of sync.

Getting back to basics, the company identified six core values critical to its success in the twenty-first century: customer focus, respect, teamwork, professionalism, quality, and initiative.  But in order to enact these values, employees needed to experience them firsthand. The company approached One World Music in search of a dynamic program that could drive these values home.

After an extensive research phase, One World Music customized its Synergy through Samba workshop to reflect the needs and values of a 600-member organization as culturally diverse as its home territory: Metropolitan New York. Through a variety of musical exercises, participants enacted each value — discovering that they made better music and had more fun when they brought each value to life.

At the end of the program, participants emerged a team, carrying a powerful shared experience of their core values back to the workplace. Exit surveys, anecdotes and reports from the client indicate that the synergistic power of samba has had an impact on how employees treat each other and serve customers.
